WSMI‘s AM Tower After Ice Storm

Ice melting from the WSMI-AM tower on 12/2/06 after the first ice storm of the season.
Pictured are the tower (notice the ice on the left guy wire), grid STL antenna, one bay of
WSMI-FM‘s backup antenna. Ice storms are a challenge for everyone. Our generator
wouldn‘t start when the power failed and our WSMI-FM transmitter was damaged by low voltage. We did get our generator running and operated on our backup transmitter while
we fixed the damage.
