Carlinville Man Injured in Accident

A Carlinville man was injured in a single vehicle accident Monday morning south of Shipman.

According to the Macoupin County Sheriff‘s Office, 37 year old Douglas Horton was driving a 2011 Ford Fiesta south on Shipman Cutoff Road when he failed to stop in time for the T-intersection with the Brighton-Bunker Hill Road at 6:38am The vehicle skidded across the intersection, struck an embankment and hit a utility pole.

Horton was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony‘s Hospital in Alton for treatment of incapacitating injuries.

The accident caused a power outage in the area.

Horton was issued a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
