Gillespie Murder Plea

Two individuals have been sentenced on murder charges concerning a 2011 murder in Gillespie.

According to Macoupin County State‘s Attorney Jennifer Watson, Judge Patrick Londrigan accepted 20 year old Cody R. McGuire‘s guilty plea on 1st degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in the 2011 shooting death of Willie Jason Walton in Gillespie. The Judge also accepted the guilty plea of co-defendant 20 year old David P. McGuire on counts of 2nd degree murder and aggravated battery.

Under the plea, Cody R. McGuire was sentenced to 33 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for 1st degree murder. Illinois law requires all defendants convicted of 1st degree murder to serve 100% of the sentence. David P. McGuire received 17 years on 2nd degree murder.
