Thu, 09 Feb 2017 06:27:49 CST

The Illinois Sheriff's Association has announced that it will be awarding over $54,000 in college scholarships throughout the state to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2017-2018 academic year.

The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only. Eligible students must be enrolled full-time to a certified institution of higher learning within the state of Illinois.

Montgomery County Sheriff Jim Vazzi will be awarding a scholarship in the amount of $500.

There are no restrictions on any applicant based on race, age, creed, sex or national origin. The only limitations are that applicants must be permanent Illinois residents, scholarships must be utilized at institutions of higher learning within the state, and students must be enrolled full-time during the 2017-2018 school year, excluding summer session.

Applications are available at the Montgomery County Sheriff's office or online at ilsheriff.org. Applications must be completed and returned to the sheriff's office by March 15.
