Nokomis man shot and killed by police

Wed, 20 Jun 2018 09:10:23 CDT

An officer involved shooting in Nokomis on Friday night has left one man dead.   David L. Hicks of Nokomis was shot and killed when a Nokomis police officer felt threatened by Hicks’ actions after responding to a disturbance call on Frederick Street.

According to the Illinois State Police investigation, Hicks had left the residence on foot prior to the officer’s arrival. The officer made contact with Hicks in the 100 block of Sherman Street at which point Hick’s actions made the officer fear for his life.

The officer discharged his weapon, striking Hicks who was later pronounced dead by the Montgomery County Coroner.

No officers were hurt during the incident and it remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.

The Nokomis Police Department requested Illinois State Police Zone 6 Investigations take over the investigation. It is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.

Once the investigation is complete it will be turned over to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney for review.
