Semi Overturns, Spilling Dirt on Interstate

Tue, 16 Jul 2019 12:40:00 CDT

A Virden man was injured on Saturday, July 13, after the semi he was driving overturned on a ramp entering Interstate 72 south of Springfield.

Steven L. Horrighs, 65, was taken to a local hospital for injuries he sustained during the accident. The severity of his injuries was not reported.

According to the Illinois State Police, Horrighs was on MacArthur Boulevard attempting to enter the eastbound ramp to I-72 when he told police that he could feel the load of dirt he was hauling in his trailer shift. The shifting dirt, he said, caused the vehicle to roll over as he was completing his turn. Upon overturning, the load spilled onto the roadway.

The incident occurred at 12:29 p.m. The ramp was closed for several hours while crews worked to clean up the scene.
