Bremer Visitor Numbers Surge

Coronavirus has led to a year of cancelled events and traditions being put on hold at Hillsboro's Bremer Sanctuary. However, there's a huge silver lining to what's become a self serve attraction to enjoy nature's splendor. The number of visitors has surged 65% in the past year. Bremer's trail monitoring system shows a big uptick in hikers, picnickers, photographers and families who wanted to escape their own four walls during the school at home and work at home era/ Trails leading to Cress Creek where the low-water creek crossing was recently installed have proven to be the most popular. Programs, educational workshops and events are currently being planned for 2021. A “Friend of Bremer” is a membership to receive all of the sanctuary’s e-versions of our quarterly newsletter, invitations to all our events and programs. A “Friend” is not eligible to hold an office or have voting power in the chapter. A fee of $10.00 is due each January and should be sent to: Hickory Hills Chapter, P.O. Box 395, Hillsboro, IL 62049. Please provide an email with payment in order to receive correspondence. Bremer Sanctuary is located one-half mile north of the Montgomery County Courthouse in Hillsboro, Illinois. Follow the signs to the barn. The sanctuary is owned by the Illinois Audubon Society and operated by the volunteers of Bremer. They are always looking for new volunteers to assist in various aspects at the sanctuary and donations are welcome!
