Litchfield Elementary School Moves Closer to Reality

Mon, 19 Apr 2021 08:59:59 CDT
The seeds of compromise are bearing some fruit in the plan to build a new Litchfield elementary school. Last week, the school board approved the site for a new grade school as well as a floor plan. While the district was unsuccessful in its sales pitch to have the city vacate St John Street for a new second through fifth grade building on State Street, the city is allowing St. John to become a one way street. Parent dropoff would take place in the front of the school while buses would operate on the back side of the school. Later this month, the board will look over preliminary images of what the new two-story structure should look like. The school board took another key step toward building the new school, agreeing to pay 300-thousand dollars to acquire 120 West St John, the current home to Litchfield Sports Inc. In the recent Litchfield candidate forum, there was discussion about the benefits of having the school board and city council meet on separate nights in the future, but the school board was able to act during the meeting because the city cleared the way for the purchase at its meeting a few blocks away.
