Details Released on Wednesday's I-55 Chase

State Police are offering initial details on Wednesday's police pursuit of a suspect on Southbound I-55 from Southern Sangamon County to just north of Litchfield. It turns out the suspect fleeing police was in a high stakes escape attempt. The man fleeing police at speeds reportedly exceeding 100 miles per hour is a suspect in a St. Louis County homicide investigation. The pursuit slowed, when the suspect entered a construction zone located at I-55 southbound at milepost 56, then ended at milepost 54, when the suspect struck an ISP District 9 squad car. The suspect continued a short distance and struck a stationary ISP District 18 squad car. The suspect was safely taken into custody and is being held at the Montgomery County Jail. The two ISP Troopers received minor injuries in the crashes and have been treated and released. This is an open and ongoing investigation with no additional information available for release at this time.
