Redistricting Proposal Revealed

Mon, 24 May 2021 14:31:16 CDT
Illinois Democrats have unveiled a proposed legislative map and if it stands, local lawmakers would see big changes in their territory. The map will be discussed this week during public hearings. Democrats will seek to approve the maps before the scheduled end-of-May adjournment. Under the new map, State Senator Doris Turner’s 48th district would change considerably Springfield and Decatur would still be the anchors, but much of Macoupin and Montgomery Counties would wind up in the 54th Senate district, currently occupied by Edwardsville Republican Jason Plummer. All indications are, he won’t be in the new 54th.    Meanwhile, State Rep Avery Bourne would be moved out of the 95th House District and would land in the 108th with Litchfield, Hillsboro, Gillespie, Mt Olive, Coffeen, Farmersville, Raymond through Palmer on 48, Hamel, Worden, Walshville and New Douglas among other towns. Bourne would not have to face off against a Republican incumbent. Okawville based Republican Charlie Meier would move into the 115th House District with the new map. Meanwhile, Witt, Coalton, Nokomis, FIlmore, Chapman and Pana would wind up in the new 107th. That House seat is currently held by 107th State Rep Blaine Wilhour. He lives within the boundaries of the current and the proposed new 107th.
