Upcoming Conservation Events in Macoupin County

If you are a farmer, landowner, or nearby resident of northern Macoupin County and value the recreational opportunities the Otter Lake offers your community, then join Precision Conservation Management, Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville, and the Otter Lake Water Commission for a FREE picnic dinner near the Otter Lake boat ramp on Wednesday, July 21 fro 5 to 8 pm. The Otter Lake Water Commisssion will also give brief boat tours to showcase what work has bee done around the lake to enhance aquatic habitat, shoreliine stability, and overall water quality. Come enjoy an evening at the lake, learn about ongoing research, and explore the financial assistance opportunites for local farmers and landowners. Local farmers and landowners looking to enhance their knowledge on the in-season impacts of cover crop application should feel free to attend a discussion-based field event sponsored by the American Farmland Trust and Precision Conservation Management. This event is “Part 2” of the field-day series and will be held in Macoupin County at 3504 Prairietown Road near Bunker Hill on Thursday, July 22nd from 8 to 10 A.M. Guest presenter Jason Boehler of M&M Service Company will walk through the field with those who attend to discuss the economic implications of cover crops and no-till systems, along with other best management practices that are geared to help farmers transition into the use of cover crops in Illinois.
